Coinbase and Chainlink Launch Bridge Connecting Base to Solana Ecosystem
A newly launched bridge now connects Base, a layer 2 solution backed by Coinbase, with the Solana blockchain, allowing for direct asset transfers between the two ecosystems. The bridge is secured by Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol and Coinbase, facilitating the use of Solana-based tokens, including SOL and SPL assets, on Base-built dapps. Early adopters of the bridge include prominent apps such as Zora, Aerodrome, Virtuals, Flaunch, and Relay. This development enables users to deposit Solana tokens into Base-based dapps and interact with them without leaving the Base environment. For developers, it provides the ability to natively support Solana assets within their applications. According to Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer at Chainlink Labs, "The integration of Chainlink CCIP into the Base-Solana Bridge paves the way for developers to build highly secure cross-chain applications, driving the industry toward a widely adopted interoperability standard." Eid further emphasized that this bridge represents a crucial step toward achieving a vision of interconnected blockchains and perpetually active capital markets, with Solana being the first linked chain and more expected to follow. The open-source bridge is available on GitHub, allowing any team to integrate cross-chain functionality.
