Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

In a significant move, Ondo Finance has bridged the gap between its tokenized equities and traditional counterparts by introducing proxy voting for holders, thereby facilitating investor involvement in corporate governance. The feature, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, enables holders of over 250 tokenized securities on Ondo's platform to review company filings and cast votes via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. By logging in with their crypto wallets, investors can access documents and governance tools typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting addresses a long-standing limitation of tokenized equities, which often lacked basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens remain distinct from the underlying shares and do not confer direct shareholder rights, the new system allows investors to express preferences that Ondo can apply when voting on the shares it holds. This development is a significant step towards making traditional financial assets more accessible and aligns with Ondo's vision. "It's a key aspect of our vision to make traditional financial assets more accessible," stated Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, in an interview. "By being on-chain, you get the benefits of free transferability and compatibility with DeFi, along with the governance rights associated with the underlying assets." Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is expanding its infrastructure to support blockchain systems. The goal is to provide a unified workflow for both digital and conventional assets, ensuring the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance. According to Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, this move will enhance the scalability and trust of the tokenized world for end investors.
