Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Stocks

Ondo Finance is bridging the gap between tokenized equities and their traditional counterparts by introducing a proxy voting feature. This development enables investors to engage in corporate governance, a crucial aspect of traditional investing. In partnership with Broadridge Financial Solutions, Ondo's platform now allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities to access company filings and cast their votes via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. By leveraging crypto wallets, investors can log in and access tools typically reserved for brokerage accounts, marking a significant step forward for tokenized equities. The tokenized equities sector has experienced rapid growth, with over $1.1 billion in value locked, and Ondo is the largest issuer with over $700 million in stock and ETF tokens on its Global Markets platform. The addition of proxy voting is essential, as it addresses the lack of basic governance rights in tokenized offerings. Although Ondo's tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this move aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible. By combining the benefits of on-chain assets with governance rights, Ondo is creating a more comprehensive investing experience. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to blockchain systems, aiming to support both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. This integration is expected to enhance the scalability and trustworthiness of the tokenized world, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge.
