New Bitcoin Wallet Offers Quantum Risk Solution Without Network Changes
The developers of a new wallet claim to have developed a method to mitigate the risks associated with quantum computing using a smart contract layer that operates in tandem with Bitcoin, eliminating the need for any modifications to the network itself. Postquant Labs has unveiled the Quip Network's post-quantum bitcoin wallet, which runs on the Arch Network, a system allowing developers to create smart contracts directly linked to Bitcoin. The Quip wallet utilizes the WOTS+ post-quantum signature scheme to enhance Bitcoin's security. By leveraging a 'Layer 2' network, developers can add features without altering Bitcoin's base layer. This solution emerges amidst ongoing discussions about how Bitcoin should address quantum risk, with proposals from Jameson Lopp and Paul Sztorc sparking controversy within the community. Quip's approach requires no soft fork, consensus change, or community vote, positioning it as a potential alternative to existing proposals.
