Sam Bankman-Fried Drops Retrial Bid, Citing Concerns Over Fairness

FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has rescinded his request for a retrial, expressing doubts about receiving an impartial hearing. Currently serving a 25-year sentence for fraud and conspiracy related to FTX's collapse, Bankman-Fried indicated that he might refile the motion after his appeal and a related request for reassignment are resolved. The initial motion for a new trial was submitted by his mother, citing newly discovered evidence. Bankman-Fried drafted the motion himself while in detention, with minimal assistance, and consulted his lawyers and family members for input. He has since withdrawn the motion, pending the outcome of his appeal, which is currently before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. During recent oral arguments, his attorney argued that the original trial was unjust due to restrictions on the evidence Bankman-Fried could present to the jury.
