KuCoin EU Strengthens AML Capabilities to Address Regulatory Concerns
In a move to address regulatory concerns, KuCoin EU, the European subsidiary of the global cryptocurrency exchange, has bolstered its anti-money laundering and compliance capabilities. This development comes after the Austrian Financial Market Authority ordered the exchange to cease operations in the EU due to insufficient AML and compliance personnel. To rectify this, KuCoin EU has appointed Carmen Kleinhans as its Anti-Money Laundering Officer and expanded its AML function. Additionally, the company has hired seasoned compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as Deputy Anti-Money Laundering Officers. According to KuCoin EU Managing Director Sabina Liu, the exchange has maintained open and transparent communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February. As a result, KuCoin EU has been strengthening its compliance team through multiple appointments, significantly expanding its capabilities. The exchange has faced recent challenges, including being barred from the U.S. by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and facing regulatory issues in Dubai. However, Liu could not provide a specific timeline for when the Austrian regulator would permit KuCoin EU to resume European operations, stating that discussions with the FMA are ongoing.
