US Voters Lack Confidence in Trump Administration's Ability to Regulate Cryptocurrency
A significant majority of US voters, approximately 62%, have expressed distrust in the Trump administration's ability to oversee the cryptocurrency sector, according to a recent survey conducted by CoinDesk. Despite President Trump's pledge to make the US a hub for cryptocurrency, his administration's efforts to create a favorable regulatory environment have not alleviated concerns about potential conflicts of interest. The survey also found that nearly half of respondents, 45%, are aware of the president's personal stake in the crypto industry, including his partial ownership of World Liberty Financial. A substantial 73% of voters oppose government officials having personal business dealings in the industry, with 59% of Republican voters sharing this sentiment. The online survey, which polled 1,000 registered voters, suggests a shift in sentiment among some of Trump's supporters since the 2024 presidential election. The survey's findings also indicate that the general public remains uncertain about the role of cryptocurrencies in the economy and politics. The crypto industry's relationship with the president has been complex, with industry leaders welcoming his regulatory appointments while navigating the challenges posed by his personal involvement in the sector. The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a bill aimed at formalizing US regulation of the industry, has passed the House of Representatives but faces hurdles in the Senate, including a Democratic request to include a ban on personal crypto ties for senior officials. The survey's results will be presented at Consensus Miami on Tuesday.
