Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million Worth of Tokenized Equities

In a bid to bridge the gap between tokenized equities and their traditional counterparts, Ondo Finance has introduced a proxy voting feature. This innovation enables investors to participate in corporate governance decisions, thereby enhancing their overall investment experience. The new feature, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities on the Ondo platform to review company filings and cast their votes through Broadridge's ProxyVote system. This move is particularly significant as it brings the benefits of traditional brokerage accounts to the realm of tokenized equities, including access to key documents and governance tools. The introduction of proxy voting is a crucial step forward for the sector, as it addresses a long-standing issue - the lack of basic governance rights for token holders. Although Ondo's tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible. By combining the benefits of on-chain transactions with the governance rights of traditional assets, Ondo is poised to revolutionize the tokenized equities sector. The partnership with Broadridge is also noteworthy, as it marks a significant extension of the firm's infrastructure to blockchain systems. The goal is to create a seamless experience for investors, with the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance for both digital and conventional assets. As Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, noted, this development will go a long way in making the tokenized world more scalable and trustworthy for end investors.
