US Crypto Regulatory Body to Utilize AI for Application Review
The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, known for its openness to digital assets, is turning to artificial intelligence to compensate for a reduced workforce, according to Chairman Mike Selig. In an interview with CoinDesk, Selig mentioned that the agency is leveraging AI and automation to make up for personnel cuts. The CFTC is working towards utilizing AI to review registration applications and aid in market surveillance, aiming to increase efficiency in its processes. Currently, the registration process involves manual document submission, but the agency is developing systems to automate this process, enabling AI tools to review applications, identify potential issues, and prioritize tasks for staff. The CFTC is also building in-house tools for reviewing swap data and conducting market surveillance, demonstrating its commitment to embracing technology. Under Selig's leadership, the agency has made significant strides in overseeing emerging technologies, including crypto and prediction markets. A notable initiative has been the establishment of a 'taxonomy' for digital assets, providing clarity on regulatory jurisdictions. The CFTC has also taken action against fraudulent activities in crypto markets and prediction markets, with Selig emphasizing the agency's commitment to enforcing regulations and protecting consumers.
