KuCoin EU Enhances Anti-Money Laundering Capabilities to Address Austrian Regulatory Concerns
In a move to address regulatory requirements, KuCoin EU has bolstered its anti-money laundering and compliance capabilities by recruiting experienced professionals. This development comes after the exchange was instructed by Austria's Financial Market Authority to cease operations in the EU due to inadequate AML and compliance staffing. To strengthen its AML function, KuCoin EU has appointed Carmen Kleinhans as its anti-money laundering officer and expanded its compliance team with the addition of seasoned Austrian compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as deputy anti-money laundering officers. According to KuCoin EU Managing Director Sabina Liu, the exchange has maintained open communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February, with a focus on enhancing its compliance team through multiple appointments. KuCoin has faced challenges recently, including being barred from the US market by the CFTC and receiving a reprimand from Dubai's VARA regulator for operating without a license. Liu noted that discussions with the FMA are ongoing to determine when KuCoin EU can resume European operations, but a specific timeline has not been disclosed.
