Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for Tokenized Equity Holders

In a bid to enhance the investor experience, Ondo Finance has introduced a proxy voting system for holders of its tokenized equities, valued at over $700 million. This development brings tokenized stocks and ETFs closer to their traditional counterparts by enabling investors to engage in corporate governance. Through a partnership with Broadridge Financial Solutions, Ondo's platform now allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities to access company filings and cast votes via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. Investors can seamlessly log in using their crypto wallets and access governance tools typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting for tokenized equities addresses a significant gap in the market, as these offerings often lacked basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens remain separate from the underlying shares and do not confer direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible. "By combining the benefits of on-chain assets, such as free transferability and DeFi compatibility, with the governance of underlying assets, we are creating a more inclusive and transparent investment experience," he stated in an interview with CoinDesk. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to support blockchain systems. The firm aims to create a unified workflow that accommodates both digital and conventional assets, providing investors with the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance. Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, emphasized that this development will play a crucial role in making the tokenized world more scalable and trustworthy for end investors.
