KuCoin EU Expands Compliance Team to Address Regulatory Concerns
In a move to placate the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA), the European division of the global cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin has augmented its anti-money laundering and compliance team. This development comes after the FMA instructed KuCoin EU to cease operations within the EU due to insufficient staffing in these critical areas. To address this, KuCoin EU, which holds a Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) license, has appointed Carmen Kleinhans as its Anti-Money Laundering Officer, alongside expanding its AML function. Additionally, seasoned compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler have been hired as Deputy Anti-Money Laundering Officers. According to KuCoin EU Managing Director Sabina Liu, the company has maintained open and transparent communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February, leading to significant enhancements in its compliance team. This effort is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the exchange's regulatory standing, following recent challenges in the U.S. and Dubai. However, a timeline for resuming European operations remains under discussion with the FMA.
