US Army Green Beret Arrested for Allegedly Betting on Classified Venezuela Raid

The US Department of Justice has arrested a high-ranking Army official, Master Sergeant Gannon Ken Van Dyke, for allegedly using sensitive government information to place bets on a military operation in Venezuela. The operation, which aimed to apprehend former Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, resulted in Van Dyke winning approximately $400,000 from bets placed on Polymarket. According to the indictment, Van Dyke created an account on the platform in late December 2025 and made 13 bets between then and early January 2026, anticipating the outcome of the US military operation. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is also pursuing an insider trading complaint against Van Dyke, who is an active-duty soldier with the US Army Special Forces. The case has drawn attention from US President Donald Trump, who expressed his disapproval of the use of confidential information for personal gain, likening the world to a 'casino'.
