Alchemy CEO: Cryptocurrency is Better Suited for AI Agents Than Humans
The current financial system was not designed to accommodate machines, but rather was built around human limitations such as geography, sleep patterns, and physical presence. However, as AI agents become more prominent in the economy, this human-centric design is becoming a hindrance, according to Alchemy co-founder Nikil Viswanathan. "You can argue that cryptocurrency was built for AI agents, not humans," Viswanathan said. The traditional financial system is tailored to human needs, with banks having operating hours, payments tied to countries, and credit cards requiring physical identity and presence. In contrast, AI agents operate around the clock, have no physical location, and do not use traditional payment methods. As a result, they require a more seamless and global financial system. Viswanathan believes that cryptocurrency provides the necessary infrastructure for AI agents to operate efficiently, with its ability to facilitate fast, low-cost, and borderless transactions. Alchemy, a crypto infrastructure company, provides the tools and services needed to build blockchain-based applications, enabling companies to create and scale on-chain products without managing the complexity of blockchain systems themselves. The company's CEO envisions a future where AI agents sit on top of crypto infrastructure, handling complexity automatically and managing wallets, executing transactions, and optimizing capital flows in real time. This would result in a more global, programmable, and autonomous financial system, with AI agents operating finance and humans using it.
