Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million Worth of Tokenized Stocks and ETFs
In a significant move, Ondo Finance has enhanced its tokenized equities by introducing proxy voting, thereby bridging the gap between traditional and tokenized assets. This innovation enables investors to engage in corporate governance by reviewing company filings and submitting their voting preferences via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. Over 250 tokenized securities on Ondo's platform are now accessible for voting, allowing investors to log in with their crypto wallets and utilize tools typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting addresses a long-standing issue in tokenized equities, where basic governance rights were often lacking. Although Ondo's tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, this new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with Ondo's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible and benefiting from the advantages of being on-chain, such as free transferability and compatibility with DeFi. The partnership with Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, aims to extend its infrastructure to blockchain systems, supporting both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. As stated by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, providing investors with the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance will significantly enhance the scalability and trust of the tokenized world.
