Mythos Forces Crypto Industry to Rethink Security Protocols

The crypto industry is being driven to reassess its security practices due to the emergence of Mythos, a new AI model. For years, the focus has been on protecting smart contracts through audits and vulnerability cataloging. However, Mythos, designed to identify and exploit weaknesses across systems, is pushing the industry to look beyond code and into the underlying infrastructure. This includes key management systems, signing services, bridges, and oracle networks, which are often less visible and outside the scope of traditional audits. A recent security breach at web infrastructure provider Vercel, which may have exposed customer API keys, highlights the importance of this shift. Meanwhile, Aave, a leading lending protocol, is at the center of a broad recovery effort following losses tied to the Kelp DAO exploit. The effort, dubbed 'DeFi United,' has raised around $301 million in commitments, with capital and credit coming from across the industry. In another development, the CEO of Alchemy has stated that crypto was built for AI agents, not humans, citing the need for a financial system that can accommodate the unique requirements of machines. Lastly, a proposed Bitcoin fork, eCash, has sparked controversy over its plan to allocate Satoshi Nakamoto's copied coins to investors, raising questions about property rights and the integrity of the Bitcoin network.
