DeFi Leaders Unite to Support Aave Users with Massive Rescue Plan After Crypto Hack

The DeFi community is witnessing an unprecedented level of coordination in response to a recent massive crypto hack, with industry leaders pouring hundreds of millions into a rescue plan for Aave users. Aave, a prominent lending protocol in the decentralized finance space, is at the forefront of a broad recovery effort following significant losses tied to the Kelp DAO exploit. This effort, dubbed 'DeFi United,' has secured approximately $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with much of the capital awaiting governance approval. The exploit, which had a ripple effect on rsETH markets and posed risks across lending positions on Aave, has prompted a coordinated industry response. Aave Labs and various ecosystem participants are working together to allocate up to 250,000 ETH as part of the recovery plan. Founder Stani Kulechov has pledged to donate 5,000 ETH personally, while other contributors, including Emilio Frangella, Ernesto Boado, and Marcelo Ruiz de Orlano, are also providing support. The response has extended beyond Aave, with Consensys committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support and Sharplink playing a strategic advisory role. Other participants, such as Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle, have also proposed contributions, including a 2,500 stETH allocation and a 30,000 ETH credit facility loan. Additionally, entities like Babylon Foundation, Renzo, Circle Ventures, Avalanche Foundation, Solana Foundation, and Justin Sun are providing deposits and purchasing AAVE tokens. The list of participants continues to grow, with Ethena, LayerZero, Frax Finance, and Ink Foundation, alongside Tyro, also contributing to the effort. Aave Labs has emphasized that these contributions represent 'long-standing relationships' across the ecosystem, with teams like Consensys and Sharplink maintaining close contact throughout. The breadth of participation underscores the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi, with the Ethereum ecosystem moving together to protect users and strengthen infrastructure.
