Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million Worth of Tokenized Equities
In a move to bridge the gap between traditional and tokenized assets, Ondo Finance has introduced proxy voting for its tokenized equities, allowing holders to participate in corporate decision-making. The new feature, developed in partnership with Broadridge Financial Solutions, enables investors to review company filings and cast their votes through Broadridge's ProxyVote system. This advancement is significant, as it extends the benefits of traditional governance to tokenized assets, making them more appealing to a broader range of investors. With over $1.1 billion in value locked in tokenized equities, this sector has experienced rapid growth, and Ondo Finance, with its $700 million in tokenized stocks and ETFs, is at the forefront. The introduction of proxy voting addresses a key limitation of tokenized equities, which often lacked basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, they now allow investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible and combining the benefits of on-chain assets with the governance of traditional assets. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is expanding its infrastructure to support blockchain-based systems, aiming to provide a seamless experience for both digital and conventional assets. By offering the same level of transparency, auditability, and compliance, this collaboration is expected to enhance trust among end investors and contribute to the scalability of the tokenized asset market, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge.
