Jane Street Seeks Dismissal of Terraform Lawsuit Related to UST-LUNA Collapse
Jane Street has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the Terraform Labs bankruptcy estate, denying allegations that the trading firm contributed to the 2022 collapse of the TerraUSD stablecoin and its sister token, Luna. In court filings, Jane Street argued that the lawsuit is an attempt to deflect responsibility for the Terra ecosystem's failure, which wiped out approximately $40 billion in value. The firm asserted that the core issues surrounding the collapse have already been resolved in court, citing cases against Terraform founder Do Kwon, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy and wire fraud and is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence. Jane Street maintained that it had no involvement in Terraform's fraud scheme and that the lawsuit's claims are an attempt to extract funds to compensate for Terraform's own misconduct. The lawsuit, filed by Terraform administrator Todd Snyder, alleged that Jane Street engaged in insider trading, using confidential information from Terraform insiders to trade ahead of significant market moves. Jane Street disputed these allegations, stating that Terraform's fraud scheme has already been prosecuted and punished, and that it played no role in the collapse. The court's decision on Jane Street's motion may influence how responsibility for the collapse is ultimately assigned.
