The Conservatives have referred Farage to the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner, while Labour has accused him of breaching House of Commons rules. Farage acknowledged the donation in an interview, stating it was intended to ensure his safety and security. The gift, made by Harborne in 2024, has sparked controversy, with the Commons code of conduct requiring new MPs to register benefits received in the 12 months preceding their election. A Reform UK spokesperson described the payment as a 'personal unconditional gift' unrelated to Farage's decision to stand as an MP, adding that everything has been declared in accordance with the rules.
