Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

In a move to bridge the gap between traditional and tokenized equities, Ondo Finance has introduced proxy voting for holders of its extensive range of tokenized securities. This innovation allows investors to engage in corporate governance, reviewing company filings and submitting voting preferences through a seamless integration with Broadridge Financial Solutions' ProxyVote system. With over 250 tokenized securities available on the platform, investors can now access critical documents and governance tools, typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts, using their crypto wallets. The introduction of proxy voting addresses a significant gap in tokenized equities, which often lacked basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens are separate from the underlying shares and do not confer direct shareholder rights, this new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with Ondo's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, combining the benefits of on-chain assets with the governance rights of underlying assets. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its capabilities to blockchain systems, aiming to support both digital and conventional assets within unified workflows. This integration is expected to enhance the scalability and trust of the tokenized asset ecosystem by providing the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance as traditional assets.
