Major Players Unite to Support Aave Users After Massive Crypto Hack
The decentralized finance world is witnessing an unusual display of unity in response to a recent crisis. Following a significant crypto hack, Aave, a leading DeFi lending protocol, is at the forefront of a broad recovery effort. This effort, known as 'DeFi United,' has garnered approximately $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website. Much of the capital is still pending governance approval. The hack, which affected rsETH markets and created risk across lending positions on Aave, has prompted a highly coordinated industry response. Aave Labs spokesperson stated, 'There's a shared priority around supporting users and restoring normal market conditions.' Many participants have a direct interest in ensuring markets function as expected due to their deep connections to DeFi through infrastructure, capital, or user access. At the core of the effort is Aave itself, with a governance proposal outlining a plan to allocate up to 250,000 ETH for recovery. Founder Stani Kulechov will donate 5,000 ETH personally, and other contributors within Aave's orbit are also contributing. The response has extended beyond Aave, with Consensys committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support. Consensys founder Joseph Lubin noted, 'The Ethereum ecosystem has always been at its best when it moves together. DeFi United is exactly that, a broad, coordinated response to protect users and strengthen the infrastructure we've all helped build.' Other contributions have come from Lido, EtherFi, Mantle, and Compound, with some taking the form of deposits into Aave itself. The list of participants continues to grow, with entities like Ethena, LayerZero, Frax Finance, and Ink Foundation also involved. Aave Labs spokesperson added, 'These are long-standing Aave relationships across the ecosystem. Teams like Consensys, Sharplink, and others have been in close contact throughout.' The breadth of participation highlights the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi.
