KuCoin EU Enhances AML Capabilities to Address Austrian Regulatory Concerns
In a bid to address regulatory concerns, KuCoin EU has expanded its anti-money laundering and compliance capabilities. The move comes after Austria's Financial Market Authority (FMA) instructed the exchange to halt European operations due to a shortage of AML and compliance staff. To rectify the situation, KuCoin EU has appointed Carmen Kleinhans as its Anti-Money Laundering Officer (AMLO) and hired seasoned compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as deputy AMLOs. According to KuCoin EU Managing Director Sabina Liu, the exchange has maintained open communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February. Liu stated that the exchange has been working to strengthen its compliance team, making several key appointments. However, she was unable to provide a specific timeline for when the FMA would permit KuCoin EU to resume European operations, citing the need for further discussion with the regulator. The development is the latest in a series of challenges faced by KuCoin, including being barred from the US market by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and facing regulatory issues in Dubai.
