KuCoin EU Enhances Anti-Money Laundering Capabilities to Address Austrian Regulatory Concerns
In a move to address regulatory requirements, KuCoin EU, the European branch of the global cryptocurrency exchange, has augmented its anti-money laundering and compliance capabilities. This development comes after the Austrian Financial Market Authority instructed the exchange to halt its European operations earlier this year, citing a shortage of AML and compliance staff. To rectify this, KuCoin EU has appointed Carmen Kleinhans as its Anti-Money Laundering Officer, while also expanding its AML function. Additionally, the exchange has hired seasoned Austrian compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as Deputy Anti-Money Laundering Officers. According to KuCoin EU Managing Director Sabina Liu, the exchange has maintained open communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February. Liu highlighted the exchange's commitment to transparency and compliance, stating that significant appointments have been made to strengthen the compliance team. Despite recent challenges, including being barred from the U.S. by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and facing regulatory issues in Dubai, KuCoin EU is working diligently to address the concerns of the Austrian regulator. However, a timeline for resuming operations in Europe has not been disclosed, with Liu indicating that discussions with the FMA are ongoing.
