Jane Street Seeks Dismissal of Terraform Lawsuit Over UST-LUNA Collapse
Jane Street has requested that a US court dismiss a lawsuit filed by Terraform Labs' bankruptcy estate, which alleges that the trading firm played a role in the 2022 collapse of the TerraUSD stablecoin and its sister token Luna. In court filings, Jane Street argued that the lawsuit is an attempt to deflect responsibility for the failure of the Terra ecosystem, which wiped out approximately $40 billion in value. The company is seeking a dismissal with prejudice, which would prevent Terraform from pursuing the same claims in the future. Jane Street's defense is that the core issues surrounding Terra's collapse have already been addressed in court, citing cases against Terraform founder Do Kwon, who has been convicted of conspiracy and wire fraud. The company maintains that it had no involvement in Terraform's fraudulent activities and that the lawsuit is an attempt to hold it accountable for the consequences of those actions. Terraform's lawsuit, filed in January, accuses Jane Street of insider trading, alleging that the firm used confidential information to trade ahead of significant market moves. However, Jane Street disputes these claims, denying any role in the collapse of the Terra ecosystem. The company's motion to dismiss the lawsuit could have significant implications for how responsibility for the collapse is assigned, with potential repercussions for the crypto sector.
