DeFi Leaders Unite to Launch $300 Million Rescue Plan for Aave Users After Major Crypto Hack

In the wake of a devastating crypto hack, the decentralized finance sector is witnessing an unprecedented level of cooperation. Aave, a leading DeFi lending protocol, is at the forefront of a massive recovery effort, with hundreds of millions of dollars pouring in from industry leaders. Dubbed 'DeFi United,' this initiative has amassed around $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with much of the capital awaiting governance approval. The hack, which exposed vulnerabilities in rsETH markets and put lending positions on Aave at risk, has prompted a sweeping response from the DeFi community. 'There's a shared priority around supporting users and restoring normal market conditions,' an Aave Labs spokesperson stated. Many participants have a direct stake in ensuring the stability of DeFi markets, whether through infrastructure, capital, or user access. Aave itself is driving the effort, with a proposed plan to allocate up to 250,000 ETH for recovery. Founder Stani Kulechov has pledged 5,000 ETH personally, while other contributors, including Emilio Frangella and BGD Labs, are also stepping in. The response has quickly expanded beyond Aave, with Consensys and its founder Joseph Lubin committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support. Sharplink played a key advisory role in these discussions. Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle are among the other contributors, with proposals to allocate stETH, ETH, and credit facilities to support users and limit bad debt. Entities like Babylon Foundation, Renzo, and Circle Ventures are also making significant deposits. The list of participants continues to grow, with Ethena, LayerZero, and Frax Finance among those contributing. Aave Labs has emphasized that these are long-standing relationships across the ecosystem, with teams like Consensys and Sharplink maintaining close contact throughout. The breadth of participation highlights the far-reaching impact of the exploit and the DeFi community's determination to protect users and restore market stability.
