Innovative Wallet Offers Solution to Mitigate Bitcoin's Quantum Computing Risks Without Network Alterations

The team behind a newly launched wallet claims to have developed a solution to address the risks associated with quantum computing, leveraging a smart contract layer that operates in conjunction with the Bitcoin network without requiring any modifications to the network itself. Postquant Labs has unveiled the Quip Network wallet, which runs on Arch Network, allowing developers to build smart contracts directly anchored to Bitcoin. The wallet incorporates a post-quantum signature scheme called WOTS+, which enhances Bitcoin's security without relying on elliptic curve math that could be vulnerable to quantum computer attacks. By utilizing a 'Layer 2' network, developers can introduce new features without altering Bitcoin's base layer. The launch comes amidst an ongoing debate within the Bitcoin community regarding the best approach to mitigate quantum risks, with some proposals, such as Jameson Lopp's BIP-361 and Paul Sztorc's eCash hard fork, facing resistance from the community.
