KuCoin EU Expands Compliance Team to Address Austrian Regulatory Concerns

In a move to address regulatory concerns, KuCoin EU, the European subsidiary of the global cryptocurrency exchange, has recruited experienced professionals in anti-money laundering and compliance. This development comes after the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) instructed the exchange to halt its European operations due to a shortage of staff in these critical areas. To rectify this, KuCoin EU has appointed Carmen Kleinhans as its Anti-Money Laundering Officer and expanded its AML function. Additionally, it has hired seasoned compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as Deputy Anti-Money Laundering Officers. According to KuCoin EU Managing Director Sabina Liu, the company has maintained open and transparent communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February. As part of its efforts to strengthen its compliance team, KuCoin EU has made several key appointments, significantly expanding its compliance capabilities. The exchange faces challenges globally, including being barred from the U.S. by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and facing regulatory issues in Dubai. However, a timeline for resuming European operations remains uncertain, pending discussions with the FMA.
