Bitcoin Faces Resistance at $80,000, Analysts Predict Temporary Setback
Bitcoin, currently trading at $78,179.50, is experiencing a familiar struggle near the $80,000 mark, hindered by sellers despite the influx of fresh stablecoin liquidity, growing ETF demand, and a risk-on equity market, suggesting a potential delay rather than a denial of a breakout. The cryptocurrency briefly surpassed $79,000 during Asian trading hours before falling back to trade below $78,000, resulting in a 0.4% loss over the past 24 hours. Other major cryptocurrencies, including Ether, XRP, and Solana's SOL, have also seen declines, with broader market benchmarks experiencing more than a 1% drop. According to Alex Kuptsikevich, FxPro's chief market analyst, the $80,000 level is acting as a short-term barrier due to concentrated sell orders, yet he believes the pullback is temporary and aligns with the broader uptrend that began in late March. On-chain and ETF data support this view, with Binance recording a net inflow of roughly $3.4 billion in stablecoins this month and U.S.-listed spot bitcoin ETFs pulling in $2.44 billion in investor money. However, security risks in decentralized finance, including recent exploits, continue to pose a threat, with total losses from DeFi-related hacks estimated at $7.72 billion since inception. In traditional markets, crude oil prices remain high, threatening global economic stability with potential high inflation.
