DeFi Community Unites to Support Aave Users After Massive Crypto Hack with Hundreds of Millions in Rescue Plan

The world of decentralized finance is often characterized by fragmentation, but the recent crisis has revealed a notable level of coordination among industry leaders. Aave, a prominent lending protocol, is at the forefront of a broad recovery effort following significant losses tied to the Kelp DAO exploit. This effort, dubbed 'DeFi United,' has secured approximately $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with much of the capital awaiting governance approval. The exploit has had far-reaching consequences, affecting rsETH markets and creating risk across lending positions on Aave, prompting a coordinated industry response. Aave Labs has outlined a plan for the DAO to allocate up to 250,000 ETH as part of the recovery, with founder Stani Kulechov personally donating 5,000 ETH. Other key contributors include Emilio Frangella, Ernesto Boado, and Marcelo Ruiz de Orlano. The response has extended beyond Aave, with Consensys committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support and Sharplink playing a strategic advisory role. Smaller contributions have come from Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle, among others. Entities such as Babylon Foundation, Renzo, and Circle Ventures have also made significant deposits into Aave. The list of participants continues to grow, with Ethena, LayerZero, and Frax Finance among those involved. Aave Labs has emphasized the long-standing relationships across the ecosystem, highlighting close contact with teams like Consensys and Sharplink. The breadth of participation underscores the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi, with the Ethereum ecosystem coming together to support users and restore normal market conditions.
