Innovative Wallet Offers Solution to Mitigate Bitcoin's Quantum Vulnerability Without Forking

The developers of a novel wallet claim to have devised a method to address the risks associated with quantum computing by leveraging a smart contract layer that operates in tandem with Bitcoin, eliminating the need for alterations to the network itself. Postquant Labs has introduced Quip Network's post-quantum bitcoin wallet, which operates on Arch Network, a system enabling developers to construct smart contracts directly anchored to Bitcoin. This approach facilitates the addition of a post-quantum signature scheme, known as WOTS+, to augment Bitcoin's existing security. By utilizing a 'Layer 2' network, developers can integrate features without modifying Bitcoin's base layer. The launch of Quip's wallet arrives amidst an ongoing debate regarding Bitcoin's response to quantum risk, with proponents arguing that their approach provides immediate protection without requiring a protocol upgrade or community vote.
