Major Players in the Crypto Industry Unite to Support Aave Users Following Massive Hack

The world of decentralized finance has come together in an unprecedented show of unity, as industry leaders pledge hundreds of millions of dollars to support Aave users affected by a recent massive crypto hack. Aave, one of the largest lending protocols in DeFi, has been at the center of a broad recovery effort following significant losses tied to the Kelp DAO exploit. The effort, dubbed 'DeFi United,' has secured approximately $303 million in commitments as of Monday, with much of the capital awaiting governance approval. The exploit has prompted a coordinated industry response, with many participants connected to DeFi through infrastructure, capital, or user access. Aave itself is at the core of the effort, with a governance proposal outlining a plan to allocate up to 250,000 ETH as part of the recovery. Other contributors, including Aave's Emilio Frangella and BGD Labs' Ernesto Boado, have also stepped in to support the recovery. The response has extended beyond Aave, with Consensys and its founder Joseph Lubin committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support. Sharplink played a strategic advisory role in the discussions, and the effort has drawn smaller contributions from across the community, including Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle. Many entities, including Babylon Foundation, Renzo, and Circle Ventures, have also made deposits into Aave or purchased AAVE tokens. The list of participants continues to grow, with entities such as Ethena, LayerZero, and Frax Finance also contributing. The breadth of participation highlights the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi and demonstrates a shared priority among industry leaders to support users and restore normal market conditions.
