KuCoin EU Expands Compliance Team to Address Regulatory Concerns
In an effort to address the concerns of its regulator, the European division of the global cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin has enhanced its anti-money laundering and compliance capabilities. This move comes after the exchange was instructed by Austria's Financial Market Authority (FMA) to halt its European operations due to a shortage of staff in these critical areas. KuCoin EU, which holds a MiCA license from the FMA, has appointed Carmen Kleinhans as its new anti-money laundering officer. Additionally, the company has expanded its AML function and hired seasoned Austrian compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as deputy anti-money laundering officers. According to Sabina Liu, Managing Director of KuCoin EU, the exchange has maintained open and transparent communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February. As a result, KuCoin EU has been strengthening its compliance team, making several key appointments to ensure it meets the required standards. The exchange has faced challenges recently, including being barred from operating in the U.S. by the CFTC and facing regulatory issues in Dubai. However, Liu is working closely with the FMA to resolve the current situation, although a timeline for resuming European operations has not been disclosed.
