US Authorities Arrest Army Green Beret Over Alleged Insider Trading on Venezuela Raid

The US Department of Justice has arrested a master sergeant in the Army, alleging he used his knowledge of a forthcoming military operation in Venezuela to place bets and win a substantial amount of money. Gannon Ken Van Dyke has been charged with unlawfully using confidential government information for personal gain, theft of non-public government information, and fraud. According to the indictment, Van Dyke created a Polymarket account and placed multiple bets on the outcome of the raid, anticipating the involvement of US forces and the potential removal of Maduro. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is also pursuing an insider trading complaint in federal court, stating that Van Dyke's actions endangered US national security and put American service members' lives at risk. Van Dyke, an active-duty soldier with the US Army Special Forces, was allegedly involved in the planning and execution of the military operation. After the raid, he reportedly withdrew his winnings, converted them to a cryptocurrency, and attempted to conceal his identity by asking Polymarket to delete his account and changing his email address. The case has drawn attention to the issue of insider trading and the use of confidential information for personal gain, with US President Donald Trump expressing his disapproval of such activities.
