KuCoin EU Expands Compliance Team to Address Regulatory Concerns

In a move to address regulatory concerns, KuCoin EU, the European subsidiary of the global cryptocurrency exchange, has enhanced its anti-money laundering and compliance capabilities. This development comes after the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) instructed the exchange to halt its European operations due to a shortage of AML and compliance staff. To rectify this, KuCoin EU has appointed Carmen Kleinhans as its Anti-Money Laundering Officer and expanded its AML function. Additionally, the exchange has hired seasoned compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as Deputy Anti-Money Laundering Officers. According to KuCoin EU Managing Director Sabina Liu, the exchange has maintained open communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February. Liu emphasized the exchange's commitment to strengthening its compliance team, highlighting several key appointments made since then. However, the exact timeline for resuming European operations remains uncertain, pending further discussions with the FMA.
