KuCoin EU Bolsters AML Team to Address Austrian Regulatory Concerns

In a move to address regulatory concerns, the European division of cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin has enhanced its anti-money laundering and compliance capabilities. This development comes after the exchange was instructed by Austria's Financial Market Authority (FMA) to halt its European operations due to a shortage of staff in these critical areas. To rectify this, KuCoin EU has appointed Carmen Kleinhans as its Anti-Money Laundering Officer, while also expanding its broader AML function. Additionally, the company has hired seasoned Austrian compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as Deputy Anti-Money Laundering Officers. According to KuCoin EU Managing Director Sabina Liu, the exchange has maintained open and transparent communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February. Liu emphasized the exchange's commitment to strengthening its compliance team, highlighting several key appointments made since then. However, the timeline for resuming operations in Europe remains uncertain, pending further discussions with the FMA.
