The Conservatives have since referred him to the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner, while Labour has also accused him of violating House of Commons rules. Farage acknowledged the donation in an interview, stating it was intended to ensure his safety and security following previous incidents. The payment, made in 2024, has sparked controversy, with the Commons code of conduct requiring new MPs to disclose benefits received in the 12 months preceding their election. A Reform UK spokesperson defended the donation, calling it a 'personal unconditional gift' that falls under the exemption for purely personal gifts.
