In a groundbreaking achievement, ClawBank's AI agent, Manfred, has become the first autonomous entity to establish its own company, registering with the US Internal Revenue Service and securing an Employer Identification Number. This milestone allows Manfred to operate as a legitimate business, hire staff, and obtain necessary licenses. The AI agent has also acquired an FDIC-insured US bank account and a cryptocurrency wallet. According to Justice Conder, the developer behind ClawBank, this marks the first instance of an AI agent autonomously forming its own corporation. Manfred, named after the protagonist in Charles Stross' science fiction novel Accelerando, has its own social media presence and can transact with over 30 cryptocurrencies. While it is not yet trading crypto, this feature is expected to be integrated soon. The emergence of Manfred has sparked interest, with experts like Ben Goertzel predicting that AI will surpass human capabilities in high-level crypto market analysis within two years. Manfred's establishment has also drawn comparisons to predictions made by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, who envision a future where AI agents dominate internet transactions. ClawBank, the project behind Manfred, is not affiliated with major model labs and is instead positioned alongside the OpenClaw movement and other agent-native projects.
