US Army Green Beret Arrested for Allegedly Betting on Venezuela Raid

A US Army master sergeant has been arrested and charged with unlawfully using confidential government information for personal gain, theft of nonpublic government information, and fraud. Gannon Ken Van Dyke allegedly used his knowledge of an impending raid on Venezuela to place bets on the outcome, winning around $400,000. The Department of Justice claims that Van Dyke created a Polymarket account and placed 13 bets on contracts related to the raid, including whether US forces would land in Venezuela and remove Nicolas Maduro. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is also pursuing an insider trading complaint. Van Dyke, an active duty soldier with the US Army Special Forces, was involved in the planning and execution of the military operation and allegedly attempted to conceal his bets by deleting his account and changing his email. The case has drawn attention from US President Donald Trump, who expressed his disapproval of betting using confidential information.
