Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

In a significant move, Ondo Finance is bridging the gap between tokenized equities and their traditional counterparts by introducing proxy voting for holders of its $700 million tokenized equities. This innovation enables investors to participate in corporate governance, a crucial aspect of traditional investing. The feature, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities on Ondo's platform to review company filings and submit voting preferences through Broadridge's ProxyVote system. Investors can access these features using their crypto wallets, thereby enjoying the benefits of traditional brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting is particularly important for tokenized equities, as these offerings have often lacked basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens remain separate from the underlying shares and do not grant direct shareholder rights, the new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting the shares it holds. This development aligns with Ondo's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, according to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional. By combining the benefits of being on-chain, such as free transferability and compatibility with DeFi, with the governance of underlying assets, Ondo is enhancing the investing experience. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to blockchain systems, aiming to support both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. This integration is expected to increase the scalability of the tokenized world by providing the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance, thereby fostering trust among end investors, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge.
