KuCoin EU Bolsters Anti-Money Laundering Team to Address Austrian Regulatory Concerns

In a move to address regulatory concerns, KuCoin EU, the European subsidiary of the global cryptocurrency exchange, has enhanced its anti-money laundering capabilities by appointing key personnel. This development comes after the Austrian Financial Market Authority ordered the exchange to cease operations in the EU due to inadequate AML and compliance staffing. To comply, KuCoin EU has named Carmen Kleinhans as its new Anti-Money Laundering Officer and has also expanded its AML function. Additionally, the company has hired seasoned compliance experts Stephan Klinger and Bernd Träxler as Deputy Anti-Money Laundering Officers. According to KuCoin EU Managing Director Sabina Liu, the exchange has been in close communication with the FMA since the regulatory action in February, working towards strengthening its compliance team. Liu emphasized the transparent and supportive dialogue with the regulator, highlighting the exchange's commitment to compliance. However, a timeline for resuming operations in Europe remains uncertain, pending further discussions with the FMA. This development is part of KuCoin's broader efforts to navigate regulatory challenges, having faced recent setbacks in the U.S. and Dubai.
