Bullish Seasonal Trends May Support Bitcoin's Upward Momentum
As April comes to a close, bitcoin is adopting a cautious stance at $78,313.84, yet historical trends suggest that any downturns may be brief, potentially clearing the path for a renewed upward surge in the coming weeks. Historical data from 2013 indicates that May is typically a favorable month for the largest cryptocurrency, with seven out of the last 13 years seeing gains. Although the average return of around 8% is less impressive than in stronger months like October and November, it still indicates a positive bias. Following April's approximately 10% gain, the seasonal pattern suggests the broader uptrend could remain intact, supported by similar bullish seasonality in the S&P 500, which is already near record highs. The outlook is further supported by consecutive net monthly inflows into U.S.-listed spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs), totaling over $1.8 billion this month after $1.32 billion in March. However, traders must monitor bond markets, where rising yields pose a challenge to risk assets. Analysts warn that despite the bullish signs, macro headwinds and potential global economic disruptions could impact the market. The impending crossover of the 50-day and 100-day moving averages may signal further price gains, but its reliability is mixed, particularly during bear markets.
