DeFi Leaders Unite to Support Aave Users After Massive Crypto Hack
The world of decentralized finance has come together to respond to a recent crisis, with a massive recovery effort underway to support users affected by a significant crypto hack. Aave, a leading lending protocol, is at the center of this effort, which has drawn in capital and credit commitments from across the industry. The initiative, dubbed 'DeFi United,' has raised approximately $303 million in commitments as of Monday, with much of the capital still pending governance approval. The exploit, which had a ripple effect on rsETH markets and created risk across lending positions on Aave, has prompted a highly coordinated industry response. Aave Labs has outlined a plan for the DAO to allocate up to 250,000 ETH as part of the recovery, while other contributors, including Aave's founder Stani Kulechov, have also stepped in with significant donations. The response has extended beyond Aave, with numerous other industry leaders committing to the cause, including Consensys, which has agreed to commit up to 30,000 ETH in financial support. The effort has also drawn smaller contributions from across the community, with Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle among those proposing allocations to support users and limit bad debt. The list of participants continues to grow, with entities such as Ethena, LayerZero, and Frax Finance also involved. The breadth of participation highlights the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi and demonstrates a shared priority among industry leaders to support users and restore normal market conditions.
