Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million Worth of Tokenized Equities

In a significant move to enhance the appeal of tokenized equities, Ondo Finance has introduced proxy voting, enabling holders of its vast array of tokenized securities to engage more deeply in corporate governance. By integrating Broadridge Financial Solutions' ProxyVote system, investors can now review company documents and cast their votes, effectively bringing the experience closer to that of holding traditional stocks in a brokerage account. This innovation allows users to access these features using their crypto wallets, thereby expanding the accessibility of governance tools. The introduction of proxy voting is particularly noteworthy as the tokenized equities sector experiences rapid growth, with over $1.1 billion in value locked, and Ondo Finance standing as a leader with over $700 million in tokenized stocks and ETFs on its platform. This development addresses a critical gap in tokenized equities, which often lacked the governance rights afforded by traditional shares. While the tokens do not directly confer shareholder rights, they enable investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this move aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, combining the benefits of on-chain assets with the governance capabilities of their traditional counterparts. The partnership with Broadridge, a major processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, marks an extension of its infrastructure into blockchain systems, with the goal of supporting both digital and conventional assets within unified workflows. As Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge, noted, providing investors with the same level of transparency, auditability, and compliance as traditional assets will significantly enhance the scalability and trustworthiness of the tokenized world.
