Trump Champions Crypto Legislation at Exclusive Event with Mike Tyson and Tether CEO
On Saturday, a select group of $TRUMP memecoin holders had the opportunity to engage with President Donald Trump and notable guests, including Mike Tyson and Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino, at an exclusive event held at his Florida club. During the gathering, Trump cautioned bankers against hindering the progress of crypto legislation. At the private event in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump reiterated the stance of his White House crypto advisors on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, pushing back against bank lobbyists who had stalled the legislation. Trump asserted that the White House would not allow banks to undermine the crypto market structure legislation, speaking at the finance-focused conference dubbed "the most exclusive conference in the world." In recent months, banking groups had persuaded some senators to share their concerns about how U.S. regulations could pave the way for stablecoin rewards programs, which they argued could threaten traditional deposit accounts. This objection had derailed Senate progress on establishing a new U.S. regulatory regime for crypto, although recent discussions suggest the bill could still move forward and has a potential path to survive a tightening lawmaking calendar this year. Trump has indicated that this is a priority. The event featured a roster of prominent crypto executives and investors, including Ark Invest's Cathie Wood and Anchorage Digital CEO Nathan McCauley, in addition to Mike Tyson. Beyond crypto, Trump addressed foreign policy issues, including Iran, Venezuela, and NATO, which he described as a "paper tiger" that is "never there for us." Regarding the digital asset industry, Trump maintained his usual stance: "We are the leader in crypto. It's become mainstream," he stated. The conference takes place as Trump continues to support crypto ventures tied to his name, drawing both industry support and political scrutiny. His close personal connections to digital assets businesses have been a sticking point in passing the Clarity Act, as Democratic negotiators have insisted that senior government officials, including the president, should be banned from profiting from the industry. A previous event he attended for his memecoin investors last year sparked protests and Democratic criticism that his policy aims benefit his own business interests, exemplifying government corruption that needs to cease. He was also criticized for meeting privately with unnamed foreign business figures who had effectively paid for their attendance.
