Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

Ondo Finance has taken a significant step towards aligning its tokenized equities with traditional ones by introducing a proxy voting feature, enabling investors to engage in corporate governance. This innovation, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, allows holders of over 250 tokenized securities on Ondo's platform to access company filings and cast their voting preferences via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. By logging in with their crypto wallets, investors can now access tools and documents typically reserved for traditional brokerage accounts. The introduction of proxy voting is particularly noteworthy, as tokenized equities have experienced rapid growth, with the sector now holding over $1.1 billion in value. As the largest issuer in this sector, with more than $700 million in tokenized stocks and ETFs on its Global Markets platform, Ondo's move aims to bridge the gap between traditional and tokenized assets. The addition of proxy voting addresses a critical gap in tokenized equities, which often lacked basic governance rights. Although Ondo's tokens remain distinct from the underlying shares and do not confer direct shareholder rights, this new system enables investors to express their preferences, which Ondo can then apply when voting on the shares it holds. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with Ondo's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible, combining the benefits of on-chain assets with the governance of underlying assets. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is extending its infrastructure to support both digital and conventional assets within the same workflows. By providing investors with the same level of auditability, transparency, and compliance, this move is expected to enhance the scalability and trust of the tokenized world, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge.
