US Authorities Arrest Army Green Beret for Allegedly Betting on Venezuela Raid

The US Department of Justice has arrested a master sergeant in the Army for allegedly using classified information to place bets on a military operation in Venezuela, resulting in winnings of approximately $400,000. The sergeant, Gannon Ken Van Dyke, is accused of violating federal law by using confidential government information for personal gain. According to the indictment, Van Dyke created a Polymarket account and placed multiple bets on the outcome of the raid, including whether US forces would land in Venezuela and remove Maduro. The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is also pursuing an insider trading complaint against Van Dyke, alleging that he endangered US national security and put the lives of American service members at risk. Van Dyke is an active-duty soldier with the US Army Special Forces and was involved in the planning and execution of the military operation. After the raid, he allegedly withdrew his winnings and attempted to conceal his identity by asking Polymarket to delete his account and changing his email address.
