Ondo Finance Introduces Proxy Voting for $700 Million in Tokenized Equities

Ondo Finance is enhancing its tokenized equities platform to provide investors with a more traditional experience, including participation in corporate decision-making. The new feature, developed in collaboration with Broadridge Financial Solutions, enables holders of over 250 tokenized securities to review company documents and cast votes via Broadridge's ProxyVote system. By logging in with their crypto wallets, investors can access tools and information typically reserved for conventional brokerage accounts. As the tokenized equities sector continues to grow, with over $1.1 billion in value locked, Ondo's move to introduce proxy voting addresses a significant gap in governance rights for these assets. While Ondo's tokens do not grant direct shareholder rights, the new system allows investors to express preferences that Ondo can consider when voting on the underlying shares. According to Matthieu de Vergnes, Ondo's global head of institutional, this development aligns with the company's vision of making traditional financial assets more accessible and benefits from the transparency and transferability of blockchain technology. Broadridge, a leading processor of proxy votes in traditional markets, is expanding its infrastructure to support blockchain-based assets, aiming to provide a unified workflow for both digital and conventional assets. By offering the same level of transparency, auditability, and compliance, this move is expected to increase trust among investors and contribute to the scalability of the tokenized asset market, as noted by Danielle Gurrieri, senior vice president and head of product management at Broadridge.
