Trump Administration's DOJ Drops Investigation, Paving Way for Federal Reserve Nominee
The US Department of Justice, under President Donald Trump, has abandoned its investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, bringing Trump's economic policy agenda one step closer to fruition. This development may pave the way for the confirmation of Trump's nominee, Kevin Warsh, who is awaiting a final Senate vote after a recent confirmation hearing. Warsh, whose personal wealth includes cryptocurrency assets, is expected to align with Trump's vision for the Federal Reserve, particularly regarding interest rates. The DOJ's decision to drop the investigation, which was related to cost overruns in a Fed building project, was announced by US Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro. The probe has been transferred to the Fed's inspector general, who will issue a report. Following the news, the likelihood of Warsh's confirmation before May 15 surged from 30% to over 80% on a prediction betting platform. The move has been met with criticism from Senator Elizabeth Warren, who views it as an attempt to facilitate Warsh's confirmation and further Trump's influence over the Federal Reserve. Senator Thom Tillis, who had previously threatened to block Warsh's confirmation, has expressed support for the nominee now that the DOJ has dropped its investigation.
