Industry Giants Unite to Rescue Aave Users with Hundreds of Millions in Funding After Massive Crypto Hack

The world of decentralized finance has often been marked by division, but in the face of crisis, an unusual level of coordination has emerged. Aave, a leading DeFi lending protocol, is at the center of a broad recovery effort following significant losses due to the Kelp DAO exploit. This effort, known as 'DeFi United,' has garnered approximately $303 million in commitments as of Monday, according to its website, with much of the capital awaiting governance approval. The exploit, which affected rsETH markets and posed risks to lending positions on Aave, has prompted a highly coordinated industry response. Aave Labs and various participants are working together to support users and restore normal market conditions. A governance proposal outlines a plan for the DAO to allocate up to 250,000 ETH as part of the recovery, with founder Stani Kulechov donating 5,000 ETH personally. Other contributors, including Aave's Emilio Frangella, BGD Labs' Ernesto Boado, and KPK's Marcelo Ruiz de Orlano, are also providing support. The response has extended beyond Aave, with Consensys committing up to 30,000 ETH in financial support and Sharplink playing a strategic advisory role. Smaller contributions have come from Lido, EtherFi, and Mantle, among others. Entities such as Babylon Foundation, Renzo, Circle Ventures, Avalanche Foundation, Solana Foundation, and Justin Sun have also made deposits or purchases to support Aave. The list of participants continues to grow, with Ethena, LayerZero, Frax Finance, and Ink Foundation, alongside Tyro, contributing to the effort. Aave Labs has proposed the release of roughly 30,765.67 ETH immobilized by Arbitrum's Security Council to support affected rsETH holders and restore rsETH's backing. Much of the capital remains subject to governance approval, but the breadth of participation highlights the widespread impact of the exploit across DeFi.
